Wow, what a feeling!

…. All of a sudden, I found myself as owner of an RV Park in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada…

Martin Maurer

It all started in summer 2004, when Martin booked his first trip to Canada.

He left Switzerland to take over a rental Motor home in Calgary, AB. Due to bad weather in Alberta and British Columbia; he traveled north and immediately fell in love with the Yukon Territory, its nature, its vastness.

This trip left behind deep impressions. After his accident in May 2003, Martin is bound to his wheelchair. He crashed while paragliding from 70 meters. While thinking about the future, he realized, his perspectives and ideas can hardly be realized in Switzerland due to the handicap. So he recalled the little “for sale” sign at the office building of the Caribou RV Park in Whitehorse, where he stayed for several nights on his tour.   So he got in touch with the Swiss owners and started to talk about details very soon thereafter. Another visit to Whitehorse and the Caribou RV Park confirmed his desire to move to Canada and own the RV Park.

The process to obtain landed immigrant status in Canada started right away and he did receive the documents he longed for mid-September 2006. Martin would have loved to run the place in summer 2006 but this was just not meant to be. It took him two weeks to pack up his household, settle matters in Switzerland and he got on a plane to Whitehorse on September 26, 2006. The big challenge could finally start!

In the meantime, most of the RV Park is easily wheelchair accessible. Who knows better the needs of handicapped people than Martin!

Now, he deeply hopes that you will consider paying him a visit and spend one or more nights at the Caribou RV Park. Come and find out what stories these pleasant folks can tell you! He is looking forward to meeting you in Whitehorse!
